Adults To take communion (that's the bit during the service when most people queue up at the altar rail) you need to be confirmed by a Bishop. This means taking part in a service where you make the baptismal vows for yourself and the Bishop lays hands on you. The opportunity for this happens about once a year and it is preceded by a short course of instruction. Ask one of the clergy if interested. However you might already be taking communion at a church which is said to be "In Communion with the Church of England". If so go ahead. If unsure ask one of the clergy. Then again at a communion (mass) service the celebrant often invites "all those used to taking communion in their own church". So if this applies - no problem. Children Children do not take communion until they are "admitted to communion". This privilege is offered to children who attend regularly and are old enough to complete a course of instruction. This happens about once a year. |
