Adults can be baptised by two methods.

Sometimes they will be included with children during an infant baptism service.

St. Giles has a Baptism Service as part of the 10am Main Service usually once a month. To book an adult baptism please come to the 10am service and pick up a form.

Otherwise they will be people seeking adult membership through Confirmation. Confirmation is the laying on of hands by a Bishop and the person taking on for themselves the baptism vows. It is preceded by a course of instruction. The Baptism is then part of the same Confirmation Service. This service takes place about once a year and may be at another local church.

Children are by custom baptised when still infants. However it is never too late and we welcome children of all ages.

Baptism is one of the major sacraments and is the use of water and oils to signify a rebirth into the Christian life. Obviously the child is too young to make promises for themselves and so these promises are made by Godparents. Usually two men and one woman for a boy child and the other way round for a girl. These godparents then have the duty of ensuring the child is brought up as a Christian and brought to adult Confirmation when they take on the promises for themselves.

St. Matthews also holds Baptism Services. Pick up a form at the 11am service.
